About the Corridor

The Midtown Greenway is a pedestrian bike and walking path that follows the abandoned route of the Milwaukee Road railway.

Between 1914 and 1916 the trench was created to create grade separation between railroad traffic and vehicular traffic.

Over the past 100+ years, the bridges were in need of evaluation and much needed repairs. Some bridges also needed replacement.

O.N.E. has been a part of many different projects associated with the rehabilitation efforts along the corridor. In an effort to retain the historic value of the corridor, steps were taken to make sure the rehabilitated bridges retained the look and feel of the original structures.

2012 – Plans were developed for the rehabilitation of the 15th Avenue and 16th Avenue bridges over the corridor. Construction took place in 2013.

2017 – Plans were developed for the removal and replacement of the Portland Avenue bridge over the corridor. Construction took place in 2017.

2014/2020 – Plans were developed for repairing the wingwalls adjacent to Br. L8908 at Pleasant Avenue over the corridor. In 2014, the northwest wingwall underwent significant repairs to stabilize it. In 2020, the northeast wingwall had a reinforced shotcrete facing applied to it to stabilize it.

2012 – Present – O.N.E. has load rated several bridges along the corridor.

2022 – Present – O.N.E. has been working with Hennepin County to conduct aerial bridge monitoring services. Select bridges have been flown with a small drone and photogrammetry models have been created from it. The idea is to be able to track changes to the bridges over specific intervals in time.
