Lyndale Ave.
This project replaces a stone arch bridge in the Grand Rounds Park System. The existing bridge was built in the early 1890′s and has undergone many improvements over the years. The bridge will now be replaced as part of an improvement project on Lyndale Avenue.
The initial phase of the project was a bridge type selection process that included input from SHPO, CRU, the County and local residents. A single-span prestressed concrete girder bridge with tall abutments was chosen. An arch-shaped facade will span from abutment to abutment to replicate the existing arch. O.N.E. designed and detailed plans to construct a replacement bridge over the Minnehaha creek to replace the existing stone arch. The replacement bridge had been detailed to characterize features of the present bridge.
Unique design features include 27 ft tall abutments with architectural treatments and stone veneer, and post-tensioned precast false arch fascia panels. Design included many safety features. Guard rails complied with State-Aid minimum height and opening requirements. Railing crash integrity and lane design geometry complies with Mn/DOT LRFD Design specifications and the latest edition of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
